Chelsea vs Tottenham – Premier League value bet

The battle for two very different things takes centre stage as wounded Chelsea are set to host relegation-threatened Tottenham Hotspur in their penultimate English Premier League fixture.

Chelsea are coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Sunday, a sixth straight final loss at Wembley for the Blues.

The game comes a couple days after the club confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as their new manager, following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior a couple of weeks ago. Chelsea have been under the temporary tutelage of Calum McFarlane for the last four games.

In the league, they are currently in 10th place with 49 points, needing two wins from their remaining two games if they are to stand any chance of playing in Europe next season. Spurs are languishing in 17th with 38 points.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham appointment has come with some rejuvenation as his side are now unbeaten in four Premier League games. They remain just two points above West Ham with only two games left to play this season.

This will be an uphill task for a Spurs side who have only won one of their last 35 away league games against Chelsea. The Blues are also unbeaten in their last 23 final home games of the season ahead of this clash.

Spurs must avoid defeat if they are to keep any hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship next season, while Chelsea’s diminishing hopes of European football next season could be completely cut off here.

We have a look at the key stats ahead of this momentous London derby and offer our predicted outcome.

Chelsea vs Tottenham team news

The Blues have been boosted by the return of captain Reece James, who will start here as he continues to rebuild from an injury ahead of the World Cup this summer.

Pedro Neto came off the bench in the FA Cup final but he is expected to start here, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Andrey Santos settling for a place on the bench.

Despite being poor in recent weeks, Cole Palmer will retain his starting role while Joao Pedro leads the attacking line. The rest of the team will remain unchanged.

Richarlison has scored in Spurs last three away games and will start here. Mathys Tel is also tipped to get playing time from the start as well.

Xavi Simons was ruled out for the foreseeable future with an injury, meaning Randal Kolo Muani will start as well despite being left out of the France squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Chelsea vs Tottenham head-to-head and current form

The Blues come into the game on the back of a poor run of form that has seen them win once in their last five games. This run has seen them lose three games – scoring only once in the defeats.

They face a rather rejuvenated Spurs side who are unbeaten in their last four, losing only once in their last five matches.

Chelsea have won all of the last five matches they have played against Tottenham in all competitions, most recently a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture last November.

Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction

Despite being the better side in recent head-to-head matches, Chelsea come into this game on an inconsistent run of form and are not hot favorites ahead of the match. Goals have been hard to come by for the Blues and that could be a key factor here.

We can expect a low-scoring game with Spurs putting their best foot forward to avoid relegation.

Prediction – Under 2.5 goals
